Michael Melton
For Charlotte County Commission — District 4
Locally Grown Representation. An Independent Voice for Charlotte County.
Born in Port Charlotte. Raised in Englewood. A licensed Florida Professional Engineer, small business owner, a husband and father raising a second generation in Charlotte County.
Charlotte County is facing real pressure — rapid growth, rising development intensity, and infrastructure that is becoming strained. Just north of us, along the Sarasota County line, we’ve seen rapid growth that threatens to outpace planning. Those same pressures are now knocking at our door.
Michael Melton is running to make sure Charlotte County plans and grows responsibly, protects its coastal communities, and puts residents first — not outside developers.
This is about protecting what makes this paradise home.
Why Michael Melton
Michael Melton grew up here — attending local schools, working trade jobs, and learning firsthand the value of community, craftsmanship, and accountability.
After earning a Civil Engineering degree from the University of South Florida, Michael worked on major stormwater, environmental permitting, and transportation projects across Florida — including FDOT work, Rails-to-Trails conversions, and Safe Routes to School programs. These projects showed him how thoughtful planning improves quality of life — and how poor planning creates long-term problems communities are left to live with.
After completing college at nearby USF in 2007, Michael chose to bring his family home to Charlotte County. Today, he owns and operates Enterprise Engineering Service in Englewood, helping residents and small businesses navigate construction, storm resilience, and permitting across the region.
He has also served seven years on the Charlotte County Construction Industry Licensing Board, including two years as Chairman and two as Vice Chairman — working to ensure contractors who financially mistreat residences are held accountable.
What’s at Stake
Responsible Growth — Not Overdevelopment
Growth is coming — but how we manage it matters.
Michael has watched nearby Sarasota County experience intense development along our shared boundary, often outpacing infrastructure, evacuation capacity, and community input. Charlotte County must learn from those mistakes — not repeat them.
Growth should:
-
Respect existing neighborhoods
-
Match infrastructure capacity
-
Preserve evacuation safety
-
Protect water resources
Coastal Communities Deserve Better
Our beaches and coastal areas are huge economic engines for Charlotte County, not just District 4 — for residents, visitors, and local businesses alike.
Yet years after major storms, basic amenities like functional public restroom and wash facilities are still missing. That’s not just an inconvenience — it affects public health, tourism, and quality of life.
Michael believes coastal recovery and maintenance should be:
-
Timely
-
Transparent
-
Planned with long-term resilience in mind
Storm Resilience & Infrastructure
As an engineer, Michael understands stormwater systems, flooding, and infrastructure failures — and as a resident, he understands the frustration when they don’t work.
We need leadership that plans for:
-
Flood mitigation
-
Realistic storm impacts
-
Infrastructure that works before — not after — disaster strikes
An Engineer’s Approach to Public Service
Engineering teaches one simple rule: every decision has consequences.
Michael asks:
-
Will this still work in 10 or 20 years?
-
Who bears the cost if it fails?
-
Does this serve residents — or outside interests?
Charlotte County deserves leadership that thinks long-term, listens locally, and acts independently.
